What a formulary tells you
A formulary is a plan’s list of covered prescription medicines. It may also be called a drug list. It differs from a provider directory, which helps you find participating doctors and facilities.
Check the specific plan
Review the insurer’s current drug list and coverage materials. Ask the insurer to confirm coverage for your prescriptions and explain applicable costs or requirements. Prescription drug coverage does not mean every medicine is covered.
Check the pharmacy, too
Confirm whether your regular pharmacy participates. If a medicine is not covered, ask the insurer about its exceptions process and discuss the next step with your prescriber.
This guide is general education. Your own coverage decisions call for a review of your needs, eligibility, and available options.
