Look beyond the monthly payment
When comparing Marketplace plans, consider premiums and what you might pay when using care. Doctor visits, prescriptions, and other services can affect yearly spending. An estimate helps you compare options, but actual costs depend on the care received.
What the limit covers
A Marketplace plan’s out-of-pocket maximum limits eligible spending on covered, in-network care during the plan year. After you reach it through applicable deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, the plan pays the covered in-network benefit costs.
What stays separate
Premiums do not count toward this maximum. The limit also does not generally include noncovered services, out-of-network care, or amounts above the plan’s allowed charge. Check the documents to see which expenses count.
