A way to understand costs

Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum describe how you and a Marketplace plan share costs for covered care. They do not rate doctors, hospitals, or quality of care. Plans in the same category can have different premiums, deductibles, networks, and benefits.

Extra savings with Silver

Some applicants qualify for cost-sharing reductions: savings on deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. Income-based cost-sharing reductions require a Silver plan. These differ from a premium tax credit, which lowers the monthly payment. Separate cost-sharing rules exist for eligible American Indians and Alaska Natives.

Compare the whole plan

Review your Marketplace eligibility results, then compare monthly payments, costs when using care, and coverage details. A metal name alone cannot tell you whether a plan meets your needs.

This guide is general education. Your own coverage decisions call for a review of your needs, eligibility, and available options.
